WHY HAVE SUPERVISION

We can experience great satisfaction and inspiration as practitioners but there are can also be challenges when working with people who may be troubled or having problems.  In particular, those starting a practice after the supportive environment of training may encounter many different unforeseen issues.

As we become busier and more experienced, taking on too much work is not uncommon and this can lead to burnout or compassion fatigue.  We are often working alone and can often feel isolated.  Other issues that frequently arise include those around roles and boundaries, ethics, time management, a diagnosis we are struggling with and lack of confidence.  There are also the everyday pressures of building a practice, whilst managing a business, time and money.

Supervision and mentoring provide a safe non-judgemental environment in which to gain greater understanding of ourselves as a practitioner.  It can feel so supportive and nourishing to share our difficulties with our peers, and hear others’ perspective and suggestions and also, most commonly, to realise most of us have the same issue at some point, and we are not alone.

Supervision and mentoring is however much more than a process that looks at our issues. In supervision, we can be continually developing as a practitioner, whilst increasing our confidence, our self-esteem and communication and practice skills.

Many people who enter supervision feel immediately relieved, supported and excited as they reconnect with their ‘alive-ness’ and enthusiasm.

To know that you are not alone, and that you can ‘say the unsayable’ whilst constantly learning and adding to your own resources is key to the success of the process and to the wider picture of living, communicating and feeling fulfilled in life.

HOW DOES IT WORK

Supervision and mentoring is available either in small groups or one to one. Groups form, build trust and consolidate over time. They can become a huge resource to learning and practice. Groups usually meet monthly, or every 2 months, usually in person but can also be on zoom.

Individual sessions are arranged according to need and availability and can take place either face-to-face, on zoom or on the phone.
